In one video, white troopers can be seen slamming a Black man against a police cruiser after finding marijuana in his car, throwing him to the ground and repeatedly punching him — all while he is handcuffed.
In some cases, troopers omitted uses of force such as blows to the head from official reports, and in others troopers sought to justify their actions by claiming suspects were violent, resisting or escaping, all of which were contradicted by video footage. It’s not clear how the Louisiana State Police rate of force against Black people compares to that of other states because there is no national benchmark and definitions of uses of force differ between jurisdictions. Activists, however, say it points to a clear problem.
Davis said transparency is a priority but “ongoing criminal and civil litigation prevents the immediate release of videos and investigative details in many of these incidents.” “These are tactics they’ve been using forever and we’re tired of it,” said Terrance Key, an Army veteran who grew up with Greene in northern Louisiana. “They’ve been getting away with this s--- for so long.”
Among the cases identified by AP’s review is a March 2019 arrest in northeastern Louisiana’s Ouachita Parish where a trooper was caught on dash-camera video grabbing Black marijuana suspect Deshawn Washington by his hair and slamming the 20-year-old into the hood of a police cruiser, a use of force omitted from the police report.
“The ultimate responsibility is mine,” records show Peters wrote in an internal email about the approvals last year. “I failed.” Two more troopers jumped on Blake, who was still handcuffed, in the roadside grass. “Stop resisting,” one of them yelled. Footage shows Trooper Randall “Colby” Dickerson punching Blake five times and kneeing him in the side. Dickerson, who faces state charges in the case, declined to comment.
MiraclesArt What do you expect from Louisiana? They send people like JohnKennedyLA SteveScalise BillCassidy to Congress to represent them. The poor and BIPOC are shit out of luck.
bradheath none of this surprises me unfortunately - the police are seeded with corrupt and violent individuals

And who is paying for stupid cops assault. The taxpayers pays for these payouts, not the cops unless they change the laws that makes them be responsible. And they wonder why they can’t get new schools or essential things they need because of the millions of dollars to settle.
Heartbreaking ❤️🩹
Another example of why people do not trust the police.
esglaude trumpunism reminds u of adolfism pre ww2.
Louisiana is in america and the same types of racist kkkops that patrol statewide also do the same nationwide.... American police were invented out of slave catching patrols therfore there is nothing short of ending all police that will save black lives.
Ok. Let’s look Into this. Then let’s look into Washington DC politicians to see if they tried to conceal their actions from the public. Then let’s look into Afghan withdraw and see if the Biden Admin tried to conceal their actions from the public. CYOA society.
probably just a bad apple or two
Really? Who would’ve thunk it! (*Literally every living Black soul who told you so…)🙄
GESTAPOlice
The sad part is that I have a white associate who lives in this city and he seems to justify the 👮♀️ actions bc of crime within their city. It’s so frustrating to try and explain to him how wrong it is, I don’t know if it’s bc he’s programmed to 🤔 minorities deserve it
This is everyday life in the deep south.
Poor cops. Theses videos are from last year. These cops might have evolved since then. Right?
So we get on twitter talk about it and then we don't do SHIT! We are as to much the blame as those dirty officers because we don't take a stand and allow it to keep happening instead of saying we've had enough and BOYCOTTING THE ECONOMY until they pass some FUCKING laws!
In Louisiana?! I'm so shocked! Now everyone look Angola (aka: Louisiana State) Prison for the real horror show...
Poor standards relate to respect to human rights are evedint in🇺🇸US in states as Louisiana with conceal police abuses as in other states; with concealed evidence of beatings & misconduct in part of police troopers ignored by their bosses. Misconduct &impunity is present.
Here comes the “systemic racism...” geese we are just chock full o’ racism and anti vaxers - they if only we could become communists - everything would be great!
Well, Louisiana is a backward state. It is a century behind the rest of the country. Everyone knows that.
It appears the rank and file are covering up for those few bad apples.😳
A corrupt police department? Lol no fucking way….
The police?! Misconduct?! Beatings?! Concealing evidence?! Noooooooo...... couldn’t be! 🙄
Egregious acts by men who whale on others who cannot defend themselves. I feel sorry for their wives and children, also.
🍎
Same as it ever was…..
Jamie1074 Color me shocked.
AP is doing Pulitzer Prize-worthy reporting on the criminal behaviors of Louisiana state troopers that seem systemic and organized. Good journalism; great public service. Just need eyes opened wide enough to see it, absorb it and fix it.
Let me guess. Is the solution to give them more funding for better 'training'? 🤬
no. way.
Bell Riots happen in 2 and a half years.
In other words, cops being cops.
FuckThePolice
Why am I not surprised?
Black people have been living under fascism in America for 400 years. EnoughIsEnough BLM BlackLivesMatter
