The Lerner family says the Washington Nationals are no longer up for sale. That won’t stop Ted Leonsis, who already owns the Washington Wizards and Capitals, from making an offer.
“We will make a credible and strong offer and we’ll continue speaking. I’m very interested but there’s no rush,” Leonsis said Tuesday on 106.7 The Fan. “We all have other pursuits and businesses, and they’re not going anywhere and, obviously, I’m not going anywhere.” The Lerners initially put the baseball team on the market in April 2022. After two years without the right offer, principal owner Mark Lerner announced in February that he was no longer looking to sell the MLB franchise.
“Nothing has really changed,” Lerner told The Washington Post. “We’ve just decided that it’s not the time or the place for it. We’re very happy owning the team and bringing us back a ring one day.”“I don’t think it was just the offer,” Leonsis, 67, said on “The Sports Junkies.” “I think there was a lot going on with the family. … There’s a lot that goes into the equation. … It’s possible that they say we don’t want to sell it, we changed our mind. People are allowed to change their mind.
