Ohio physician Dr. Jeff Zehngut helps deliver signed petitions to the Ohio Secretary of State's office on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Ohioans United for Reproductive Rights successfully got their constitutional amendment on the Nov. 7 ballot. A proposed marijuana statute by initiative petition also could appear, making for a lively November off- year election.
I politely declined to sign, explaining to the woman that while I might get a buzz if I drank too much of the liquid I was about to buy, at least I would know who I was after drinking it, and wouldn’t think I was trapped in another dimension. Usually, the odd year elections don’t raise much state-wide fuss, relegated as they are to city councils and other local races. But there will be no hiding from this year’s campaign mania, as money will be pouring in to support or oppose each issue, much of it from out of state.
As an aside – I understand the concept of spending money to convince people to vote your way on marijuana. But when it comes to abortion, what’s the point? That’s about the most divisive, passionate issue of the age.I understand that a lot of it is a get-out-the-vote effort, but is there really anyone out there who needs a political ad to tell him or her how to think – and vote – about abortion?
