The Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue held its first in-person BoardWaddle since the pandemic.

The Doo Dah Parade was back in Ocean City Saturday afternoon which meant the basset hounds were back.held its BoardWaddle, the main fundraiser for the rescue. It also happens to be the largest brigade in the Shore town’s annual parade that kicks off the city’s season of special events.

For the rescue, its first in-person meet up since April of 2019 began Friday afternoon as they gathered for the basset Olympics where at least 40 hounds ran and jumped their way to glory competing in a 10-meter sprint, 15-meter hurdles, high jump and obstacle course. Leading off the BoardWaddle was grand marshal Janey who came to the rescue in May of 2020 weighing only 28 pounds. She was found with buckshot in her — from being shot with a shotgun — wandering in rural Mississippi looking for food. She is also a two-time cancer survivor.

“It’s providing immediate care and necessities to the dogs that we currently have, and gives us the opportunity to save more dogs in need,” explained Ellis. A catheter-based procedure which is more commonly done on humans that was modified for dogs was performed on him byThe cost for his procedure, which was performed last September, was between $5,000 and $6,000.
