The Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday chose not to induct Curt Schilling, the star pitcher whose candidacy was colored by controversial political statements.
“All votes must be cast by December 31. No changes are permitted,” Jon Shestakofsky, vice president of communications and education for the Hall, said on Tuesday. In December, one of the nation’s best-known sportswriters, Joe Posnanski, said he could no longer support him. The Hall of Fame’s ballots stipulate that the candidates are supposed to display “integrity” and “character,” which some voters took as sufficient to disqualify Schilling.“My decision was based on character . My decision was made after Curt retweeted allegations that the mass murder of the children of Newtown, Ct., was a hoax,” added Smith, who is the only female writer ever awarded Cooperstown's prestigious J.G. Taylor Spink Award.

The Baseball HOF did the right thing. Keep him out for life.
Schilling was an effective post-season pitcher but a well documented complete ass. Baseball HOF criteria includes character. The writers have the right to withhold a vote based on character.

Schilling was better than the average HOF pitcher. But he wasn’t excluded for politics - most MLB players are conservative. He enjoyed joking about lynching journalists, lying about election fraud, inciting sedition, and celebrating insurrection when it happened and people died.
