Ban on transgender surgeries approved by Utah Legislature

If signed by the governor, SB16 would outlaw sex characteristic reassignment surgeries for Utahns under the age of 18 and place an indefinite moratorium on hormonal treatments for Utah children and teens not already being treated for gender dysphoria for at least six months.

Hall's changes to SB16 also add provisions stating a minor could bring a malpractice lawsuit against health care providers if the individual "later disaffirms consent," up until the minor turns 25 years old.Cox said last week Surgeries and medications including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are among the medical treatments that transgender and nonbinary people sometimes use to transition or alter their sexual characteristics. Some medical professionals, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics, say the best way to treat children and teens with gender dysphoria is to provide them with medical interventions often referred to as gender-affirming care.

I agree with this move. Bravo Utah.

Frankly given the data thus far collected on long term health effects of these surgeries. It seems appropriate.

Good it’s child abuse full on. Those who brought society to this madness makes making profits as well should be tried in criminal courts.

I have to agree with this, given the current state of our society. A child is not equipped to make these decisions and a parent should NEVER decide for them on this matter.

As it should be. They can make their own decisions on that when they run 18.

Ya know, I don't like bans for stuff like this because medical decisions should be always up to the patients and guardians....however, medicalization that are permanent are not ethical to do on children.

Good… No child/parent needs to be making that decision. I think that is the mature/responsible thing to do. We change a lot in decision making as we get older. I do support doing it as a legal adult.

Vaccine passport ban appears to be contagious in Utah HouseUtah Rep. Walt Brooks, R-St. George, is again presenting a bill to bar private businesses from requiring proof of vaccination for customers and employees. Last year the bill died in the Utah Senate without a vote on the final night of the session. Seems like there are already a lot of exceptions included just to work around the immediately obvious challenges. Is this even going to change or achieve anything if passed?

School voucher bill passes in Utah Senate, heads to Gov. CoxBREAKING - The bill that would designate millions of dollars toward school choice for families passed a final vote in the Utah Senate Thursday and is headed to the desk of Gov. Spencer Cox.
