OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington appears set to become the first state to allow a burial alternative known as 'natural organic reduction' — an accelerated decomposition process that turns bodies into soil within weeks.

1 / 6In this Friday, April 19, 2019, photo Katrina Spade, the founder and CEO of Recompose, displays a sample of the compost material left from the decomposition of a cow, using a combination of wood chips, alfalfa and straw, as she poses in a cemetery in Seattle. Washington is set to become the first state to allow the burial alternative known as"natural organic reduction," that turns a body into soil in a matter of weeks. OLYMPIA, Wash.

The measure's sponsor, Democratic Sen. Jamie Pedersen of Seattle, said that the low environmental impact way to dispose of remains makes sense, especially in crowded urban areas. Pedersen said an entrepreneurial constituent whose study of the process became her master's thesis brought the idea to him.

Six human bodies — all donors who Spade said wanted to be part of this study — were reduced to dirt during a pilot project at Washington State University last year. The transformation from body to soil took between four and seven weeks, Spade said.

The Chargers are going back to powder blue uniforms, but not back to San DiegoWhile many hailed the return to a uniform style often hailed as the best in the NFL, some saw it as yet another slap in the face to San Diego fans who for years wanted the team to make that move — only to see it move to Los Angeles. Pay to play San Diego fans begged for this for years. And we would have done anything to keep our beloved Chargers in San Diego, except allowing ourselves to be extorted into paying for a billionaire's stadium at the expense of schools & streets. For millions of Americans on workplace wellness treadmill, test results are back, and not goodOne of the first randomized clinical studies of a corporate wellness program tracking 30,000 workers reveals companies may need to temper expectations on better health outcomes and lower health-care spending. There's still more promise than payoff. I exceeded the weight limit. That’s because our 10 min breaks are bathroom breaks, unable to exercise during a workday except at lunchtime. And most jobs don’t have an area even to walk around in safely. Surprise! Sitting on ass all day as service industry jobs leads to health issues. Who would have thought lack of activity would be detrimental. 🤔
