B. Smith Dies: TV Host, Entrepreneur, Model, Restaurateur, Author And Lifestyle Guru Was 70

Entrepreneur honoree B. Smith attends the BET Honors at the Warner Theatre on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 in Washington. showcased her knack for defining lifestyle trends, has died. She passed from Alzheimer’s disease at her Long Island Home, according to her family.

Known throughout her career by her first initial, Smith had her own home collection at Bed Bath and Beyond and other retailers wrote three home entertaining books. Barbara Elaine Smith was born on August 24, 1949 in Pennsylvania. She went by B. Smith throughout her career, which was marked early by becoming the first African American woman to grace the cover of Mademoiselle in July 1976. She went on to be featured on 15 magazine covers during her modeling career

Alzheimer disease is an extremely frightening disease. I applaud this woman for trying to advocate & encourage for early testing. I'm sure she will be missed by all whom she has touched w/her grace and dignity.

She was the epitome of elegance, style and grace. She was an author and entrepreneur. May she RIP.
