Spartans coming to San Diego with a familiar face at quarterback — Hawaii transfer Chevan Cordiero — and a scoring defense ranked 10th in the nation (16.4 ppg)

San Diego State has dominated its series against San Jose State in recent years, winning eight of nine meetings between the teams since 2013.

SDSU was listed Monday as a 2½-point underdog against San Jose State for a game that kicks off Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Snapdragon Stadium. Two years removed from a MW title, San Jose State was viewed as an also-ran this season when it was picked for third place in the conference’s West Division in a preseason media poll.

The Fresno State loss is the only MW blemish for a San Jose State team coming off home victories over Nevada and Colorado State the past two weeks. The Spartans are averaging only 89.3 yards a game rushing, with senior running back Kairee Robinson and Cordeiro the two most likely players to run with the ball.San Jose State ranks 10th in the nation in scoring defense , which is almost exactly what SDSU’s offense has averaged at Snapdragon Stadium in four games against FBS opponents. Most impressive the past two weeks is the 17 sacks the Spartans totaled. That gives them a conference-leading 3.62 sacks per game.
