The Oakland Police Department is investigating the burglary of Sweet July, at 455 23rd St., after an incident reported on Oct. 1 shortly before 6:30 a.m., OPD spokesperson Candace Keas told SFGATE.
"When officers arrived they learned that an individual gained access to the business by shattering the entrance glass," wrote Keas in an email."The individual entered the business and took several items from the location prior to leaving."The investigation is still ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the OPD burglary section at 238-3583.
Sweet July did not respond to a request for comment at time of publication. The store first opened in January 2021, sharing the same name as Curry's food and lifestyle magazine. In a with SFGATE, Curry called the store"the magazine brought to life." Sweet July sells home decor, books, jewelry and more from Black-owned and local Bay Area companies. There's also a cafe inside the store serving Sweet July-branded coffee.
