When the LPGA announces its 2023 schedule Friday, the golf tour’s slate will be without a San Diego County event for the first time in more than a decade.
The LPGA’s 10-year run at Park Hyatt Aviara has come to an end with the 2022 JTBC Classic played there in March. The tournament that has been played at the Carlsbad resort since 2013 will not be on the Ladies Professional Golf Association’s 2023 schedule, according to a recent post on the JTBC Classic tournament website.
An unbylined post dated Oct. 6 on the tournament website says, “We are incredibly grateful for the last 10 years of support from Park Hyatt Aviara. Unfortunately, the JTBC Classic will not be on the LPGA Tour schedule for the 2023 season. We are extremely thankful for the partners, sponsors, volunteers and fans who have supported this tournament over the years.
The JTBC Classic, previously known as the Kia Classic, has been played at Aviara nine times since Spain’s Beatriz Recardi won in a playoff in 2013. The Kia Classic was played at La Costa Resort and Spa in 2010 and 2012.The LPGA is completing its 2022 season this weekend with the richest tournament in tour history, the CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Fla. The winner will claim $2 million from an overall purse of $7 million.
