Initial observations from Monday night’s Stanley Cup Final Game 3 between the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning.After getting skunked 7-0 in Game 2 — the worst playoff loss in Tampa Bay history — the two-time defending champions returned to form on their home ice. Even though the Avs grabbed the early momentum with Gabe Landeskog’s first-period goal, it was uphill for Colorado from there.
Compher with spectacular, sprawling saves in both the first and second periods, as the goalie kicked out his right leg pad at the last moment on both occasions to deny Compher the net. Vasilevskiy did yield a pair of power-play goals to Landeskog, but kept Tampa Bay firmly in control. Meanwhile, Kuemper was pulled after giving up his fifth goal on 22 shots, and backup Pavel Francouz allowed another goal.
