January 18, 2020, 10:45 AMCatch up on the developing stories making headlines.can now face a penalty of up to $11,000 if they are caught tossing a lit cigarette out of their car.
The hefty fine would be given if the offense was committed during a total fire ban, which is declared on days of extreme weather and prohibits people from the lighting of any fires in the open or engaging in other activities that may start a fire. It is not immediately clear how much a person would be fined when there isn't a fire ban.The penalty comes amid the Australia bushfires that have decimated parts of the country.
"This reckless behavior puts the safety of firefighting volunteers at risk,” McDonough said in a statement. “I hope this move makes people think very carefully about the consequences of their actions next time they go to discard a lit cigarette.”
They should do that everywhere!
'This reckless behavior puts the safety of firefighting volunteers at risk,” McDonough said Errrm... and a few others too I think.
TRUTHFLASH: New World Disorder creates terror with DEW that burned alive a billion animals and destroyed thousands of homes making way for new rail line. ABC tells the fleeing people cigarettes caused this. Bad legislators & Media liars burn in hell and never return. Jesus
Should have done that BEFORE the fires... An ounce of prevention. It's kinda like America with gun violence. A little too late and a dollar short.
Make it a criminal offence
From ye old political playbook. “Let’s make sure the people see we are quickly taking draconian measures to obfuscate the fact we haven’t done enough on the strategic lines in the past.”
What was the penalty before?
Arsonists caused it, but the chosen ethnics see a way to cash in.
GOOD CALL FOR THEM
Good! They should.
Decimate--'to reduce by one-tenth.' Please use the term correctly or drop it altogether.
I agree our actions have consequences?
I firmly believe that the fire in Australia is not natural. May God Save Australia.
But I thought it was the climate hoax
The cause of the massive bushfires is dry lightning strikes though.
$11k isn’t nearly enough.
even if they are put into sentence it will never recover what is lost in this disaster
Prayers for the people of Australia
They should add the same to pedestrians or anyone standing around smoking. Comming across a pile of cigarette stubs is disgustung.
I bet those fires are scared now. Legislation that will never be enforced smothers everything, even fires.
Cheers. Very good. Nothing abt Wildfires should b taken lightly.
Who..Could be that..Unaware
Why the distinction between the driver and the passenger?
Wish they would do that in Florida and Calif...actually EVERYWHERE!😕
and don’t forget the new fine this year for a 1000.00 for using a cellphone 🙄
Ouch, I wonder what they'll do to all the people arrested for Arson?
😢🌊💧🌧☔🙏🏼
Good
Give them a jail sentence. The whole country is in f**kin fire.
Better get those Co2 gasses to stop smoking.
Good !
they been trying to fine people for years on this. but based on your price you just wanna buy some art.
After what we have witnessed, caused by man or not, that fine is not nearly high enough.
My Uncle Ronnie is always tossing used cigarettes everywhere, even on our kitchen floor. I might use this idea and start fining him too.
