The country is 'specifically targeting' students and highly talented individuals from Hong Kong who will be able to contribute to Australia's economy, said Alan Tudge, minister for population, cities and urban infrastructure.

The "circumstances have changed" and some will "be looking to set up shop elsewhere," said Tudge. He said the decision to offer paths to permanent residency to Hong Kongers is "consistent" with what his country always does.and suspended its extradition treaty with the city. Beijing called the moves a "gross interference in China's internal affairs.", and Tudge said that's one of the reasons why it wants to attract skilled workers.

"In part, that's what our reach-out to the super talent in Hong Kong and elsewhere is about," Tudge told CNBC. Australia also wants to attract companies that want to move their regional headquarters out of Hong Kong.

Australia if I quarantine for a month on lockdown can I move there and become a working citizen and a tax payer? You can have me under supervision the entire time to make sure i quarantine.

Solve Australian racists attitude first before doing this. Or is Australia doing this lip service to contain China?

Age old mantra. Westerners will sue the seed and then reap it's fruit.

It might help to end the lockdowns, if the goal is to attract skilled foreign workers.

what about talented people who like to fool around

Are the following counted as “serious talented?” 1. Graffiti design. 2. Passenger beating. 3. Senior people gas burning. 4. Police officer stabbing. I am sure you will find many, mate.

Ide go but I can’t stand vegimite nor roo meat!

And they should! If those in Hong Kong want a life free of the CCP! Australia is good close choice!

Controversial Take....But One Country, two systems never made sense to me....I can't see any country in the world that would accept such a bullsht arrangement, surprised it lasted this long

Someone's loss is someone's gain

This is the kind of thing that happened in 1930's Germany.

Good for both
