Austin City Council approved a taxpayer-funded pilot program to give selected families and individuals $1,000 a month for an entire year — with no strings attached.
Ahead of the vote, Austin Mayor Steve Adler pushed back on the assertion that the program was a"giveaway," arguing instead that Austinites should view it as"an investment." "I am discouraged by the rhetoric that this is a giveaway," he said."I just think that's so misleading and so wrong and demonstrates a lack of understanding."
District 6 Council Member Mackenzie Kelly, who expressed reservations about the program last month and pushed for the delay on its approval, was not present at Thursday's meeting; neither was District 7's Leslie Pool.
Tossing money at problems doesn't fix the issue.
Total BS

Who doesn’t want to move to Au$tin ?
This IS NOT a give away. You’re thinking of the tax breaks given to million/billion dollar corporations that come here. This will actually help those families instead of just enrich the already wealthy.
Wonderful news! If previous trials of models like this are anything to go by, this will be extremely positive for those families and the communities they live in.
Where can I apply? I’d like some free money. Also, it’s racist/sexist/homophobic/anti-trans/anti-immigrant/discriminatory to ask for any documentation with respect to how much money I make, so they’ll need to take my word for how much I earn.
Free money that will be blown and not fix the problem.
Are there any drug testing requirements? This is such a terrible idea.
Guaranteed failure
