Abortion rights activists gather outside of the Texas State Capitol Tuesday, May 3, 2022 in Austin for an “emergency protest” in Austin, Texas. The protest was organized by Rainbow Coalition Austin and Texas Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights as a reaction to a leaked opinion draft from the Supreme Court that shows the court plans to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Tuesday’s rally, organized by the advocacy groups Rainbow Coalition Austin and Texas Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights, began as a modest-sized crowd of a few dozen demonstrators, gathering around 5 p.m. at the southern edge of the Texas Capitol grounds.The audience quickly swelled to include several hundred people, collectively covering blocks at a time as they marched through downtown Austin to the federal courthouse, temporarily bringing traffic to a standstill.
