Nature research paper: In mice, the Omicron variant has less replication in both the upper and lower respiratory tract and less pathogenicity compared with previous variants.

. While recent reports reveal that the Omicron variant robustly escapes from vaccine and therapeutic neutralization antibodies, the pathogenicity of the virus remains unknown. Here we show that the replication of the Omicron variant is dramatically attenuated in Calu3 and Caco2 cells.

Well, this is sorta consistent with the hypothesis, floated by some, that Omicron jumped back into human population from mice through 360° zoonosis. Unfortunately mouse data are not very predictive when applied to humans.
