Attendance jumps at Six Flags, SeaWorld, Cedar Fair theme parks

The owners of SeaWorld San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels said attendance across their parks rose during the first quarter as families enjoying spring break, the Easter holiday and cool weather flocked to roller coasters and water slides. Despite that and record-high revenues at two of the companies, all three posted losses in what is traditionally the industry’s slowest quarter. Six Flags is making tech updates to parks, website and app. Here’s what’s changing. In San Antonio, the company opened Catapult Falls, a flume roller coaster, at SeaWorld San Antonio and added a 15,000-square-foot water play area with dumping buckets, slides, sprays and other features dubbed Tikitapu Splash at Aquatica San Antonio.

SeaWorld San Antonio’s Aquatica opens new water-filled attraction Tikitapu Splash Cedar Fair recently opened an area called Schatze’s Storybrook Park at Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, the first new attraction at the park in over a decade. It includes a children’s water coaster, water slides, a splash pad area and other features and is named for Schatze, the park’s dachshund mascot.

The deal would create a theme park operation spanning 17 states and three countries. The combined company would be based in Charlotte, N.C. and own 27 amusement parks, 15 parks and nine resorts.
