OAKLAND — The Athletics limped out of town Sunday hoping things will get better away from the Coliseum.A 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox Sunday before a crowd of 12,084 closed out a 1-9 homestand against Texas, Houston and the Red Sox. That came after their previous 2-5 homestand, which came before an 0-6 homestand that ended on May 4.
Montas threw 104 pitches, 72 for strikes, with a walk and seven strikeouts in losing his fifth straight game. He has a 2.87 ERA during that stretch. The A’s eventually worked the bases loaded, but Schreiber struck out Kevin Smith to get out of the inning. Tyler Danish pitched the eighth and Ryan Brasier the ninth for the Red Sox. The A’s got a run against Brasier on a two-out RBI single from Tony Kemp.
