According to an Associated Press survey, more than 70 percent of university ADs claim certain sports could be cut altogether if their school paid students.

INDIANAPOLIS — To hear many of those in charge of Division I programs tell it, the state of play for women’s sports could get worse, not better, under proposals that would put more money in the pockets of some college athletes.

The most striking of the results released Thursday: 94% of respondents said it would be somewhat or much more difficult to comply withif their school were to compensate athletes in the biggest money-making sports. More than 70% said certain sports would lose funding or be cut altogether if their school offered additional non-scholarship payments to students.

“It’s not a matter of ‘if’ it’s going to change,” St. John’s AD Mike Cragg said. “It’s a matter of ‘when’ — and what it looks like.” So a fundamental restructuring of the revenue model could ultimately shift money out of women’s sports. “If that happens,” Florida State AD David Coburn said, “that IS going to impact not just other men’s sports, but it will certainly impact women’s sports and the ability of universities to impact equity.”

Supreme Court hears battle over paying NCAA student-athletesThe Supreme Court will take up a case that could reshape college sports on Wednesday, pitting the NCAA and 11 conferences against a class of student athletes seeking compensation. My brother Sid was a incredible football player who eventually played pro. He had to borrow some money from his coach to take his girlfriend to lunch...probably a rules violation. Couldn't get a job because they worked out all the time. I personally know of several outstanding Div I athletes who struggled to pay for costs while in college and who now have thousands in student debt. It has been basically a Catch 22 situation. They should be compensated based on the amount of revenue that their respective sports earn.

The NCAA says it supports transgender student-athletes as some states enact sports bansThe NCAA says it 'firmly and unequivocally supports' transgender athletes having the opportunity to participate in college sports as a growing number of states have moved to block them from competing. Isn't it ironic and hypocritical that for the sake of 'inclusiveness' NCAA supports purging women from women's sports? Why was the NCAA not as vocal about girls rights to play boys sports (football)? Ppl said girls could be hurt; but now it’s ok for guys to play on a girls team? It’s ok to be transgender; this is about basic physical differences in size & strength.
