On a day when a good portion of the crowd seemed ready to watch Serena Williams make history, Simona Halep was happy to play the role of spoiler.
Halep, a 27-year-old from Romania, won the women’s singles title Saturday at Wimbledon, defeating Williams 6-2, 6-2, in a display that was as brusque as it was dominant.
Congrats to both women! And the headline sucks.

Well, I have to be disappointed. But I know she was beaten by a great player with great heart and the world is the better for both Halep and Williams. May their tribe increase.
