AstraZeneca-Oxford Vaccine Up To 90% Effective At Preventing Covid-19, Early Results Show

Findings from Oxford University and AstraZeneca's clinical Covid-19 vaccine trial show it to be, onInterim analysis of the Phase 3 clinical trial — which involved over 24,000 participants — showed the vaccine to be 70% effective with no severe side effects, though this was based on data from two different dosing regimens tested.

Looked at individually, the vaccine, which requires two separate injections about a month apart, was 90% effective when given at a lower dose and 62% effective when given at a higher dose. the “findings show that we have an effective vaccine that will save many lives,” adding that more people could be vaccinated with the same supply if the more effective lower dosing regimen is used.

The vaccine is a hope to many around the world, for it is cheaper and easier to store than other promising candidates from Moderna and Pfizer and it requires only a standard refrigerator and ordinary distribution channels.. AstraZeneca has commitments to supply 3 billion doses of the vaccine in 2021, which could vaccinate more than 1.5 billion people, and is already undertaking large-scale manufacturing in anticipation of regulatory approval. that “today marks an important milestone in our fight against the pandemic” and that the vaccine will “have an immediate impact” on the Covid-19 crisis.
