Following a debate among the Anchorage Assembly, Bronson administration and other stakeholders, the Assembly passed an ordinance on Wednesday, as amended, that ensures their say in certain actions concerning municipal resources such as water, mineral, wind or solar.

ByANCHORAGE, Alaska -

In a resolution that also passed on Wednesday, the Assembly will be given the power of subpoena to force the parties involved in the project to present otherwise confidential documents. The Assembly said they learned of a binding term sheet that sets forth the city’s water rights and access to drinking water from Eklutna Lake in the event the governor approves the currently proposed plan.

In addition, Zaletel maintains there isn’t a vote by the municipality in regard to the outcome of the 1991 Fish and Wildlife Agreement due to no one being qualified as the head of Anchorage Hydropower for several years. The passed legislation came after testimony by the Alaska State Director for Power the Future, Rick Whitbeck, who also spoke out against the code changes.
