FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two Fairbanksans are linking up crafts to leave their mark on a building that most recently housed local businesses, Gulliver’s Books and Sunshine Health Foods.
She, or maybe her gut, then decided the time had come for the full-on café: The House of the Rising Bun.Once both open, the seasonal trailer and permanent café will be within walking distance from each other — so close that Boger said she’s quipped with staff about purchasing walkie-talkies for quick trailer-to-café communication.
Offering espresso drinks, salads and sandwiches with meats like grilled chicken and sliced ribeye, the cafe’s grub will also be distinct from its trailer counterpart. But Boger and her buns won’t be taking over the lease for the whole building. Down the flower-lined stairs from Boger and her handmade décor, local ceramicist Tamara Want is hoping to bring more creative strokes into the two-story structure.
“Like many, you get hooked, and I just kept taking classes and have been doing it for probably about ten years now,” she said.
