pandemic, new studies are beginning to offer insight as to why some facilities are seeing more cases than others -- and, according to one, how important nursing home employees themselves are to the fight., found that across eight states those facilities that were able to maintain more staffing in the homes had fewer COVID-19 cases than staffing in homes the study rated as low-performing.

MORE: As coronavirus fatalities decline nationwide, viral deaths persist in America's nursing homes, data shows A medical staff person walks out of Fair Havens Center nursing home facilities in Miami Springs, on May 11, 2020. Fair Havens Center reported 128 positive cases of COVID-19 cases and dozens taken to hospital over a weekend period.

Toby Edelman, a senior policy attorney for the Center for Medicare Advocacy, a nonprofit, organization that provides education, advocacy and legal assistance to help older people and people with disabilities obtain health care, told ABC News that nursing homes have struggled to meet federal standards on staffing levels even before the coronavirus pandemic.

The study, which followed an outbreak in a Maryland nursing home, found that patients who need dialysis, a treatment for kidney failure, were more likely to have COVID-19, possibly because of their frequent exposures outside the nursing home to both community dialysis patients and staff members at dialysis centers.According to the report of the study, the hospitalization rate for residents who received dialysis was higher than among residents not receiving dialysis.

Study NY nursing homes residents deaths, the state won’t

PrimeSundayService THE RAPTURE IS NEAR!! REPENT IN THE MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS.

Did it have anything to do with NYGovCuomo putting Covid patients in them?

Uhhhhh, could it have anything to do with moving NY patients in to nursing homes?!?! Sigh.....

Hey, generally small proximity conditions, highly contagious virus and highly susceptible and elderly group of people - the living conditions in senior aged facilities should have already been modified back in February .... not 7 months down the line ........ like wtf ...

Close the beaches?

So ...the people in nursing homes are not : protesting, rioting, going to the mall.... So why can't they be protected.

Is the answer “because they are in New York”

It may have a tiny bit to do with this..

Let’s not forget that dem governors intentionally put covid positive people in nursing homes. A real news story you should cover...if you were a news outlet

Cuomo? Wolf?

have no use for white elders so they rot after the kids get tired of them but still need that inheritance that will be coming upon their passing. Instead of caring for them until they pass, they dump them in these death holes and refuse to visit them. Wait until YOU get old!!!!

White, non Indigenous people would do this as we Natives honor our Elders and they remain in the homes of their children or grandchildren. Reservations in SD esp are taking extra precautions to keep our elders, keepers of OUR wisdom alive so it can be passed down. White people

If these homes were monitored as strictly as kids enviroments, they would have been closed months ago. If I had a parent or grandparent, they would have been permanently removed and brought home March 6. I do not understand people leaving elders to die in these death camps. ONLY

Hydroxychloroquine Should Be Available Over The Counter

Joe Biden supports violent Marxist revolutionary groups like BLM and Antifa that are burning, looting, and killing people right now.

Where was all these years with reporting multiple violations and abuse going on in the nursing home industry?

Free of charge, I would call a meeting in The Situation Room. Look, here's the deal.. I've laid out a plan building on Obamacare, And I'll always tell you the truth.. At a brave child and job starts with safe, days were far by es sential

Hardest hit? Like the dude in Detroit who was punching the residents?

Mainly because some nursing homes have a better budget, can hire more qualified help, and consequently have access to better medication and vaccinations. Unfortunately nothing new about that.

Exactly. Infection control is a minimum standard per the Codeo of Federal Regulations, but in my experience facilities are not willing to hire enough staff to meet this requirement. Staff are set up to fail. They're required to have staff to meet minimum standards, usually dont.

It’s a man made flu virus and a media made pandemic 🖕🏻

Ask New York and New Jersey how many people they killed in their nursing homes

Why? You’re kidding, right?

Probably cause old people live there?

We can do better as humans. Peace!

Good luck on that. I was a cna for 10 years and worked in many facilities on all shifts. I NEVER worked a fully staffed shift because the higher ups treat all those below them as though they don’t matter.

Yeah, definitely not because of the heinous policies NYGovCuomo and others to forcibly admit the covid-infected

Wait? Didn't governor Cuomo......?

It’s because the Dem governors wanted to Jack the numbers up to make Trump look bad

Not like the 'care' was any higher quality already....

Full staffs interfere with profits... That's why regulations are often necessary. That's why enforcement is often needed. So consider the parties... Who is bigly - for profits & against regulations? Then vote to protect yourselves! USPolitics uspoli Trump Republicans

That seems a bit obvious doesn’t it Did we JUST open long-term care facilities

Well, duh

Well take money and politics out and try this

I can attest to this, for sure.

Not enough staff to service customers creates an experience that is lackluster? Thanks, “expert”!!

What do you mean “when” they don’t have enough staff Medicare funded nursing homes are ALWAYS understaffed and underfunded. Conditions are commonly deplorable. It’s a tragedy.

Ok captain obvious.

The problem with nursing homes and the virus is much as with severe hurricanes. The homes don't want to send patients to places like hospitals because they'll lose the direct payments.

My daughter works in a nursing home one of the nurses tested positive and some patients are isolated. Will know more tomorrow. Please say a prayer 🙏

Thank you nurses and CNAs and staff. Working at a nursing home can be exhausting in good times, now...

A great defense for nursing homes would be governors who didn’t stuff them full of sick people.

Still leading

My Dad died from COVID19 because it got in his nursing home. I know they did the best they could.

Thanks to COVID, I have lost my job, my partner and about to lose my house. I have two young boys and no income. If you can help, my cash app is $athastings07. Thank you and God bless.

Time to stop talking..Let's finally see some action. They get away with everything over and over.

Standoff over Covid relief could drag into SeptemberWhite House officials and top Democratic leaders signaled that they can’t agree to meet face-to-face, much less forge a compromise, on a Covid relief bill to help the battered U.S. economy or tens of millions of Americans facing financial hardship That works real well for those who’ve lost their jobs. Here's an example of U.S. leadership failing miserably, as both sides assume an adversarial stance rather than one of compromise. It's inexcusable that bickering and political infighting persist while many suffer. It's no wonder Americans have so little confidence in government. Dear leader won't let them...
