Mortgage rates are hovering near historical lows. But only 19% of homeowners with pre-pandemic mortgages have actually refinanced. And people of color are particularly missing out on this opportunity to lock in lower interest on their home loans.

Mortgage rates resisted the temptation to move upward after hitting the highest level in months a week ago. But research suggests that many households won’t manage to take advantage of the potential savings the low-rate environment represents.

“ ‘Mortgage rates were flat this week as investors stood pat, waiting for more signs dictating the economy’s path forward and potential key decisions made by the Federal Reserve.’ ” The refinance boom of last year didn’t help all homeowners equally Whether existing homeowners and prospective home buyers will be able to make the most of this reprieve from rising rates — however long it lasts — remains to be seen.

“The refinance boom did little to close the nation’s lingering racial wealth and homeownership gaps,” NCRC president and CEO Jesse Van Tol said in the report.

Biden sees dip in support amid new COVID cases: AP-NORC pollNew AP-NORC poll: President Joe Biden is facing a summer slump, with Americans taking a notably less positive view of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and his job approval rating ticking down. The media's been a little critical of Biden but it's nothing remotely close to the pressure required to make a politician resign. Plus, Biden and his people have no shame, so he's not going anywhere. The AP-NORC poll finds 54% of Americans approve of Biden’s job performance overall, down slightly from 59% in July. Now, 54% approve of his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, down from 66% last month. Duh, do ya think?
