Debate over Colorado River cutbacks centers on whether water lost to evaporation should be counted. Changing the formula would hit California hard.

As climate change and overuse threaten the Colorado River, Native American tribes seek a larger role in the river’s stewardship.

The Imperial Irrigation District holds some of the most senior water rights on the river, dating to 1901. Under the existing water-rights system, that makes the district among the last in line to be required to take cuts in a shortage. As the federal government pushes states to reduce usage of dwindling Colorado River water, Imperial Valley farmers fear a “worst-case” scenario.

“It would affect us disproportionately,” said Bill Hasencamp, MWD’s manager of Colorado River resources. “This isn’t a be-all, end-all proposal. And frankly, Reclamation is going to have a hard time modeling this proposal.” The dispute has roots in the agreements, court decisions and rules that govern how the river is managed.

But in the three Lower Basin states, Kuhn said, those losses were never considered as part of the water delivery contracts. The amount of water used has been calculated as the amount diverted minus return flows to the river — which happens in farming areas such as Blythe, were water flows off farmlands and runs back into the Colorado.

Why California is so far apart from other states in Colorado River water cuts planHow to divide Colorado River cuts: A breakdown of how California's proposed water reductions compare with an offer submitted by six other states. Super weird to see this article leave out the ramifications of no water flowing through hoover dam and how much electricity won't be generated as a result. ByIanJames what's up with that? Californians are waking up to the Democrats’ scams now that they’ve seen that Gavin Newsom purposefully made sure that we didn’t have enough water storage in our state to store the recent abundant rainfalls. Step 1: create the crisis Step 2: propose the “solution” '23 yrs of severe drought and effects of climate change have pushed Lakes Mead and Powell to their lowest levels since they were filled.' Green line is the median (1991-2020). note: 2023 to date - click on each yr back to 1999. 23 yrs of off and on.

Still no agreement between western states, including CA, on how to reduce Colorado River water useWith the ColoradoRiver in crisis, there is still no agreement over which states and regions should have their water allocations cut back and how soon those cuts should go into effect. Here's how this could impact California. Lake Havasu is set up for water for Los Angeles that was done I think in the 50s my grandfather was the Director of the department of water and power in the 60s 70s and 80s. His name is Samuel B Nelson. Umm… technically, California is the only state holding up any agreement. If you were going to be honest, you might want to point out that MAJOR fact I don't worry about running out of water because I know it's done on purpose. They could simply build more storage but they refuse to do so. They want a water shortage issue.

Column: The fight over the Colorado River is a 100-year-old interstate grudge matchHostility and mistrust are at the heart of the inability of California and six other states to reach an agreement on the Colorado River. CA needs to do its part to live up to its calls for a Green New Deal. That is, design a rainwater capture system that can provide much needed water to residents/farmers, instead of draining the Colorado River, thereby depriving people in 7 other states the water they need. Just close the dam and let the lake fill back up. Problem solved. and? another stroking episode made by government's corruption. a diversion to the many crimes made upon you. our own governance has made war upon you and this is only a symptom . Water management has been ignored for years along with our constitution and laws by the elite class

How about calling out hedge funds who are also market makers putting amc on threshold yet find millions of shares to short off exchange.
