, with a leading industry body calling for a coordinated plan from broadcasters and government agencies to address the potential economic fallout of the global pandemic on the local film and TV biz.

However, the group said it doesn’t see “how productions can continue indefinitely as the epidemic escalates.”The IPO said it has asked South African broadcasters how they plan to soften the financial blow for the creative industry workers who would be affected by a potential work stoppage, but thus far no “clear policy” has emerged., with production on most local shows continuing apace.

“We need an urgent and rational resolution of the matter that is not done at the expense of our fledgling industry,” said producer and director Rehad Desai . “We cannot be held ransom by broadcasters who are seemingly saying they bear no responsibility in this matter.”

Inside the South Korean Labs Churning Out Coronavirus TestsOne reason South Korea has managed to check the spread of the new coronavirus and bring down its infection rate has been an efficient testing network that allowed it to quickly isolate those infected Some of these journos still not understanding what kept the rates low in SK: it's testing & forced quarantining. Once positive, ur forced to quarantine urself a la China. It's not voluntary; it's forced upon you & is enforceable. Do we have enforcement means in this country? So the lack testing isn't merely a delay / hiccup, but part of a strategy prioritizing social distancing instead? You would think the latter is used while the former gets ramped up. We can't shut the economy down forever, why aren't we embracing the South Korean model? EFFICIENT a magic word
