February 24, 2020, 10:19 PMThe fire at Porterville Library killed two California firefighters. As a pair of 13-year-old boys await arraignment on murder charges in the deaths of two firefighters who were killedthat destroyed a rural California town's library, outrage has erupted in the community over state laws barring the prosecution of the juveniles in adult court.
In an unusual move, Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward released a video statement before the charges were even filed to explain the"significant limitation" his office faces in prosecuting the boys in the California juvenile justice system. Fire Captain Raymond Figueroa and Firefighter Patrick Jones are pictured in photos released by the Porterville Fire Department in Porterville, Calif., on Feb. 19, 2020.
Jones, 25, and Figueroa, 35, were part of the Engine 71 crew that was first to arrive on the scene as heavy smoke poured from inside the library, officials said. Uncertain that everyone was evacuated, the two firefighters entered the burning building to search for victims. Shortly after they radioed a"mayday" call from inside.Figueroa was quickly found by a search crew and removed from the burning structure, authorities said.
"Once we determined that they were suspects in the crime, there was no more questioning for the juveniles," Kroutil said."We have to rely on other investigative means to confirm their involvement."
Firefighter are our greatest public servants. But are you kidding me? Thirteen year old kids should never be charged as adults. Locked up with the key thrown away. They are still being charged with murder, as they should be.
Same problem in Chicago... liberal nonsense! We have teen thugs terrorizing the whole city!
I said it before and I will say it again. If these 13 year olds are old enough to start a fire, they are old enough to be tried as adults! Period!
This not being able to try them as adults is more California crap. People like Gavin Newsom & SpeakerPelosi and others through the years have made murder okay...
Try them as adults & charge the parents, too.
Bad ass kids
And you want them to vote at 16? When is enough?
Basically, depending on state law, if a crime is heinous enough by definition, the prosecutor can ask the court to remove their juvenile status and ask that they be tried as adults. 2 deaths occurred. Would these deaths have occurred if they had not set the fire? Yes/No?
The 13 yr olds need to be confined where they will get help, structure, education, make restitution, forced to do community service, victims impact, where they won’t reoffend, not just put into the system. They should be held till 21. It can be done.
You are either a minor, or you are not. Our ignorant society wants to control the lives of young adults at least to age 18. Some would raise it to 21 or 25. Total ignorance. Our justice system is crap thanks to the abuse and corruption from within.
If old enough to do the crime then you should be old enough to do the time.
Why even have a juvenile court if prosecuted as an adult at will? Why are they being charged with murder? They are 13 yrs old and made a very made mistake.
Those boys should go to jail for life. The took 2 lives, they’ve ruined 2 families, they’ve ruined an old structure in town and they’ve ruined a crew. They knew exactly what they were doing and need to face the consequences. Fucking monsters 🤬
Trying children as adults is not civilized.
just set the teenagers on fire and let mother nature deal with it
If you can’t get into a rated R movie than you shouldn’t be tried as an adult, unless the offense involves porcupines and/or antelopes, which are endangered species and deserve the utmost protection.
Who the fuck burns down a library
TRY THOSE MONSTERS AS ADULTS !!!!
