from Fort Hood last year, led them to reassess the current practice of quickly listing soldiers who do not report for duty as absent without leave, or AWOL.
"How quickly can you see is it involuntary or voluntary? Are they missing?" Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy told ABC News'"20/20" in anGen. James McConville, the chief of staff of the Army, told reporters on Thursday that the upcoming changes will address"confusion" about the existing AWOL policy among commanders.Lupe Guillen, sister of 20-year-old murder victim U.S. Army Pvt. 1st Class Vanessa Guillen, speaks outside the U.S.
Lupe Guillen, sister of 20-year-old murder victim U.S. Army Pvt. 1st Class Vanessa Guillen, speaks outside the U.S. Capitol as her mother Gloria looks on Sept. 16, 2020, in Washington, D.C."They only become AWOL after thorough investigation, thorough looking for the soldier, dealing with the family, dealing with law enforcement, we can prove that they are absent without leave," said McConville.
"If a soldier is not present for duty, they are missing," said McConville."And we will continue to do all we can do, just like we would in combat, to find them and get them back." He encouraged junior commanders to reach out to the families of soldiers in their units to establish relationships that could help determine a soldier's state of mind if they don't report for duty.
Good!
Beautiful girl godbless with sisters and brothers she probably had other options than the army.
I would have went to hollywood if I was her not the army.✨🙈🙂😇
Its about time these are women/men that are serving their country and they need to be treated like humans and not ignored when they go missing!!!
Take them to justice.
I thought Elvis was in Germany?
Just restructure AWOL.
If the military stands with Conald, who cares what they think, see defunding
There needs to be an independent investigation by people not tied to any ranking officer at Fort Hood.
While in the Navy, this young sailor was talked into traveling from our PSNS in Bremerton, Wa. To a state back east. After weeks on the run they got into an argument, and she turned him. He was arrested, then given a dishonorable discharge. The military is to complacent w/AWOL.
Search and rescue or recovery missions launched for our own solidiers during normal duty. I don't rightly know what to think of that... 1. How did this become a thing. 2. Resources to devote to this- money, time, fuel, etc. What is the cost of this alone. 3. Here or abroad, wow
When you lose a pack of batteries and get absolutely smoked by your sergeant but the army can lose a whole damn private and be like 🤷♂️
It's about time!
And it only took 28 death to make the change. That was sarcasm of course. We all know the people at the top are still being shielded.
Theyre gonna get in trouble if they get caught in town now!!!!!
Hasn't it been like that always?
Soon? What about a soldier that dorsnt report? You have proven foul play? Why do you have to wait?
Seems like the bare minimum here...
Army needs to take care of each and every single soldier. It's their duty.
