A Tarrant County judge sentenced Bryan Lizarzaburo Penafiel, 24, on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to an intoxication manslaughter charge last year.

Arlington police officers responded to call June 26, 2022, about a collision at the intersection of South Collins Street and East Arbrook Boulevard a little before 10 a.m. Witnesses told police the driver of a BMW Model 328i traveling east on East Arbrook Boulevard ran a red light, striking a Ford Focus that was legally passing through the intersection.The driver of the BMW was speeding, police officials said then. The collision caused the Ford Focus to roll onto its side.

Lizarzaburo Penafiel was taken to the hospital following the crash with injuries officials believed were not life-threatening. He was drunk at the time of the crash, police officials said.His mother, Angell Jones, spoke directly to Lizarzaburo Penafiel in a courtroom, the station reported, telling him, “I’ll never forgive you.
