Before the delivery arrived, she saw Oxlaj Pérez cycling on an old gray bike through the rain toward the school. She wasn’t wearing a rain jacket, and her dress was soaked in the downpour. But she smiled and presented her delivery — cans of pineapple juice dangling from her handlebars, and a box of tamales strapped to the back. She’d heard about the order on a parents’ group chat and wanted to bring some food of her own.
