CLEVELAND, Ohio — An Arizona man is facing federal charges after authorities say he sent a package containing fentanyl pills to Garfield Heights and planned to sell them as oxycodone pills.
Solomon Odubajo, 37, of Tempe, Ariz., is charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl, interstate travel in aid of racketeering, attempted possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio says that in April, inspectors with the U.S. Postal Service became suspicious that a package mailed from Arizona contained drugs. After obtaining a search warrant, they opened the package and found more than 1 kilogram of fentanyl tablets that were designed to look like oxycodone pills.
Investigators were able to trace the parcel and found Odubajo had mailed it from Arizona, then traveled to Ohio to retrieve it. When Odubajo was arrested, he was found with a firearm, which is prohibited because of a previous conviction for drug trafficking in Cuyahoga County.Laysalle Scales, 24, of Cleveland, who authorities say is a co-conspirator with Sodubajo, pleaded guilty in July to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl.
