Arizona House Republicans again on Wednesday blocked an attempt to repeal the 1864 ban on nearly all abortions that wasDemocrats and a handful of supportive Republicans may have a chance to try again this afternoon before the chamber adjourns.The state Senate could also pass a repeal when it meets at 1:15pm today. Two GOP senators have called for repeal, which would give the bill enough votes to pass.Rep.
Arizona lawmakers do not have a fixed adjournment date. Last year's session, the longest in state history, lasted until July. Enforcement of the 1864 ban is paused for at least 60 days following the Supreme Court's opinion, due to court procedures and a separate agreement made by the Attorney General.The "Arizona Abortion Access Act" would expand abortion access to the point of fetal viability, generally around 24 weeks, with exceptions for life and health of the mother.Share on twitter
