Elected officials in Arizona certified the state's election results in a formal canvassing ceremony at the state Capitol, initiating the start of recounts and potential lawsuits, which couldn't begin by law until after the canvassing.

Arizona Democrat governor-elect and current Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs signs the official certification for the Arizona general election canvass in a ceremony as Arizona Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, second from right, Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Brutinel, left, and Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich flank Hobbs at the Arizona Capitol in Phoenix, Dec. 5, 2022.

"2024 will bring a host of challenges from the election denial community that we must prepare for, but for now, Arizonans to stand proud knowing that this election was conducted with transparency, accuracy and fairness in accordance with Arizona's election laws and procedures," she added. Brnovich made a point of noting that the governor and attorney general don't officially certify the election but serve as witnesses in the ceremony.

Lake's campaign told ABC News on Monday that she still plans to file legal challenges to the election results. Republican Abe Hamadeh, also backed by former President Donald Trump, like Lake, is expected to file a challenge as well.

Arizona Certifies Election Results, Makes Katie Hobbs’s Win Over Kari Lake OfficialArizona certified the results of the midterm elections, making Katie Hobbs’s win over Kari Lake official. The results put a Democrat as governor, secretary of state and in both U.S. Senate seats for the first time since 1950. She did less than zero to earn this position. Wouldn’t even debate. What a despicable shame for Arizona And there wasn’t a single suspicious thing about it at all. 🙄 Uh huh.
