For the first time in six days, Corbin Carroll is in the Diamondbacks’ lineup for Friday night’s game against the Nationals. He is batting third and serving as the designated hitter.
Diamondbacks Manager Torey Lovullo said that Carroll did not report any pain after running the bases. However, Lovullo thought Carroll was “a little bit protective” of his knee. For Carroll to return to his typical spot in left field, Lovullo said he needs to see “full engagement on the basepaths” without pain. He also needs Carroll to get reps in the outfield, operating near the wall at full speed.“He is progressing well,” Lovullo said. “Very well.
“He's gonna get a couple of spins in the ACL,” Lovullo said. “To control the atmosphere, control the innings, pitches per inning, rolling innings, all those things that we know of. But we're not sure. It's gonna at least be two and then we'll feel out how he feels after the second one and come up with a better plan from there.”
Whereas Davies was able to keep his throwing arm in shape while working back from injury, catcher Carson Kelly’s right arm was in a cast for weeks following a broken forearm suffered in spring training. As such, he has needed to build strength back in that arm.
