Experts say the U.S. remains much less vulnerable to international terrorism than it was on 9/11. But many others also worry that over the long term, Afghanistan could become a terrorist haven once again, and could incubate future attacks.

“We have learned since 9/11 how to protect Americans from terrorism,” she said. “It isn’t fail-safe, and terrible things still happen. But through a combination of actions abroad and at home, we have thus far been able to disrupt and prevent another 9/11-style attack.” Over the last 20 years, the CIA and the military have hunted and killed thousands of militants in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, Libya and Syria, among other places.

When intelligence leaders briefed Congress this year on the major threats facing the country, they focused on China, Russia, climate change and pandemics. In the wake of the Jan. 6 insurrection, domestic extremism, already of growing concern, received new attention.“I think we have to be clear-eyed about the reality,” CIA Director William Burns said, that while “both Al Qaeda and ISIS in Afghanistan remain intent on recovering the ability to attack U.S.

I’m much more concerned about Republican law makers overturning the next election or simply throwing out votes and creating as Authoritarian government.

We may not be safer, but we have lost many brave soldiers, permanently disabled others and are significantly poorer in dollars that could have been spent on healthcare, infrastructure and education.

Not from them trump supporters.

If Western politicians stop killing men, women and children in their own countries perhaps we’ll earn lifelong friends not lifelong enemies.

OARichardEngel A guy shot over 500 people from a hotel window in Las Vegas, just as one example of how we don’t need to worry so much about international terrorism. We have our own here in America. Didn’t they just arrest a bunch of fascists plotting to bomb and knock out our whole power grid?
