Second, that complete lack of holes, even a speaker hole, as I say, is part of the IP67 ingress protection rating that means it can lie in water a meter deep for up to 30 minutes and has strong protection against dust and dirt getting in, too.Third, as other forum members have piled in to say, you need to choose the position on the edge wisely to avoid causing damage to unexpected or unseen elements inside.
And fourth, despite the forum members very best efforts, the result really doesn’t look aesthetically appealing. AirTags are such cute little devices, it seems a shame to do anything except make them look their best, with the right accessory, say. And, of course, there will be many instances where you just don’t need to attach the AirTag to a string like this, if you’re putting it in a pocket in your purse, backpack or briefcase, say.
In other words, it’s your AirTag to do with as you like, and I get it, it was a fun thing to try and do. But I’d very strongly caution against compromising it like this. Up to you, of course.
