MCU star Anthony Mackie praises She-Hulk for its differences from past Marvel projects. She-Hulk premiered in August as the MCU's latest Disney+ show, introducing audiences to Jennifer Walters, a successful attorney and Bruce Banner's cousin. So far, the series has focused primarily on her work as a lawyer, with Jen largely viewing her superhero alter ego as an annoyance, though she recognizes there are some perks to it.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY While She-Hulk is the eighth MCU series on Disney+, Mackie was a part of one of the very first, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The show found his character Sam Wilson wrestling with the Captain America mantle after Steve Rogers entrusted him with it at the end of Avengers: Endgame. It was only at the show's conclusion that Sam finally embraced the shield, recognizing he needed to be his own version of America's hero separate from Steve.
She-Hulk was great, being the last series to come out on Disney+. You know, it was just different than their norm. You could see Marvel giving writers the opportunity to spread their wings and look at the Marvel universe in a different way. Mackie's statement about She-Hulk being "different" than past Marvel projects is a sentiment that's been shared by many who watch the show. The series has a lighter, more irreverent tone compared to the majority of Marvel's other Disney+ series. From the beginning, She-Hulk was touted as a legal comedy, which, based on the first half of the season, is an accurate statement.
Since She-Hulk is coming after Marvel has its Disney+ shows well-established, it makes sense the writers have been able to try some things that are quite revolutionary for the studio. For example, Jen breaking the fourth wall isn't shocking for viewers of Fleabag, but it is surprising to see the technique employed within the MCU.
