Over a foot of snow was forecast for parts of the city, where crews are still clearing the remnants of last week’s storm. Up to 24 inches could fall on the eastern Kenai Peninsula. Winter storm warnings were in place for most of Southcentral Alaska.

Anywhere from 9 to 24 inches of heavy snow is expected across the region, according to National Weather Service updates Saturday afternoon. Many communities were set to see a first wave of snowfall before then, on Saturday night, before the snow picks up Sunday., the weather service said 9 to 18 inches of heavy snow is possible by Monday afternoon, with higher snow totals expected on the Anchorage Hillside and in Eagle River.
