This is at least the second employee to come forward with accusation of unjust firing at the gardens.9:00 AM on Jun 3, 2022 CDT
The allegations come about seven months after another discrimination complaint was filed against the gardens.— the firm representing Jeffcoat and the former employee in the previous complaint — and filed Tuesday with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the city of Dallas’ Fair Housing Office.
The gardens are hosting a “Pride in Bloom” event on June 11 for LGBTQ Pride Month, the statement noted. In October 2021, Jeffcoat’s husband fell ill with COVID-19; Jeffcoat informed his managers of the situation, referring to his husband as his “partner.” He had not previously shared with management that he lived with another man, according to the complaint.
“If you work for someone for seven and a half years, I’m sure you’re not going to have a perfect record,” said Shelly Skeen, a Lambda Legal attorney. “The key here is the timing: The only thing that changed here between what David had done over the course of those seven years was the fact that he came out as gay.”
