Well, this is certainly a buzzkill.

Iowa resident Carson King went viral last week for raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for the University of Iowa’s Stead Children’s Hospital after holding up a sign on national TV asking for beer money. Companies like Anheuser-Busch BUD, -0.59% and Venmo pledged to match the donations, which have topped more than $1 million.

“It’s turned into something really cool, and a way to help families and to help the kids,” he said at the time. “It’s just incredible to see what kind of a difference you can make when people band together.” “Carson King had multiple social media posts that do not align with our values as a brand or as a company and we will have no further association with him,” reads the statement provided to MarketWatch. “We are honoring our commitment by donating more than $350,000 to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.” But giving King a year’s supply of free beer, or putting his face on future Busch Light cans, is now off the table.

He raised a million dollars for a hospital through beer money. Then his old racist tweets surfacedCarson King raised more than $1 million for an Iowa children's hospital, borne out of a request for beer money on national TV. But old racist tweets ended his relationship with the beer company that promised to match his fundraising. Can we please stop letting what people said or thought in the past define them today. People aren’t one dimensional they evolve in their thinking. I've learned that racism has no place in the galaxy. Mandalorians have no place either, though. Why do people always have to try and destroy good things? It seems this is the new normal these days.

But from a business perspective, it's a teachable moment: talking about transgender identity and experience can be challenging, even for strong allies. So how should leaders do so, and what should they do when they make a mistake? “Prejudice”? For not allowing men to sleep in a women’s shelter....after the women asked him not to.
