The Angels acquired right-hander Touki Toussaint from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations on Sunday, adding a pitcher who was once a top 100 prospect.
The 16th overall pick in the 2014 draft, Toussaint reached the big leagues in 2018 and posted a 5.46 ERA in 145 innings over parts of four seasons. Although he struck out 9.6 hitters per nine innings, he walked 5.3. Toussaint, 26, last pitched in the majors in 2021, posting a 4.50 ERA over 50 innings, including 10 starts. He had spent all of this season in the minors, the final season in which he can optioned. Toussaint had a 6.26 ERA in 41-2/3 innings with the Braves’ Triple-A team. He started eight times, so the Angels could use him as depth to start or relieve.The Angels designated infielder Jack Mayfield for assignment on Sunday to open a 40-man spot for Toussaint.
