In its first 11 months of being collected, Anchorage's alcohol sales tax raised close to $14 million. The voter approved measure keeps the funds earmarked for things like combating child abuse and sexual assault, targeting homelessness, and public safety.

The city has not released a breakdown of exactly where the money was spent, but the voter approved measure has funds earmarked for three broad categories:Targeting homelessness, mental health, and substance misuse.Tiffany Hall, director of Recover Alaska, helped to push for the alcohol tax. Hall said she’d like to see more details on how it was spent, but believes the money is being put to good use.

“Really what we want to know is how effective the programs were,” he said. “Did they achieve the goals that the voters supported?”

Why not use it to promote housing first and limiting liquor storm hours?

The price of alcohol is so high now with the taxes I have to quit drinking or I will be homeless

Judging from the normal crowds at new seward and n lights, not doing too great on that homeless part.. its even some of their hard earned panhandled money too
