The Anchorage Assembly is considering a request to open 50 more shelter beds at the city's emergency winter mass homeless shelter site. The city's three sites are almost full, and privately owned shelters are also largely full.
Last month, a total of 524 winter shelter beds were opened. Currently, only five beds are open at the group shelter on 56th Avenue, and 11 hotel room shelter beds are open at non-congregate sites.
