Email Bio Follow March 14 at 12:00 PM Majorities of people in countries that have accepted many of the world’s migrants say that immigrants strengthen their countries rather than burden them, according to a Pew Research Center survey. And on several questions, Americans offered more positive opinions on immigrants than those in other countries.
The Pew Research survey was conducted in spring 2018 in 18 countries, which contain 51 percent of the world’s migrant population. Anti-immigrant sentiment has become a driver in elections from the United States to the United Kingdom and beyond. The poll comes out as leaders from Washington to Rome have sought to restrict the flow of migrants into their countries.

It's funny how the countries with strict immigration laws (Japan) have the highest opinion on immigrants' willingness to adapt, as opposed to countries with lax immigration laws (EU countries). It's almost as if controlling immigration helps weeding out the bad apples...

That's pretty well known. But motivating people to vote for you by stirring up fear of immigrants has worked for as long as there has been more than one group of humans, so its not like knowing this will make that tactic less popular.

Very true. I had observed with delight, a warming towards immigrants since racist 1970s. We then became tolerant and much less racist. Sadly the ‘Little England’ mentality returned due to Brexit. However, the racism is so ‘out there’ again, it is being fiercely countered.
