There’s not much doubt that the campaign team powering former New York mayor Mike Bloomberg’s Democratic presidential bid is aware that last week’s debate in Nevada didn’t go well for their candidate. During, Bloomberg seemed a bit better prepared than he had been then, a sign that his team had perhaps impressed upon him the need to do better.
But, just to hedge their bets, they had an obvious backstop. During the first commercial break of the debate, some markets, including New York City, showed an ad for Bloomberg’s campaign. Sure, the candidate himself was still fumbling a bit in offering even his go-to lines. But voters could still hear Bloomberg’s polished, edited pitch for the relatively low price of a network TV spot. For a campaign that already has spent half a billion dollars, that’s hardly an expense at all.
Those watching the debate, though, suddenly noticed another way in which Bloomberg was unexpectedly being bolstered. At times, the debate audience interjected with boisterous applause when Bloomberg spoke, including when he mentioned a gun-control group he had founded. At other times, the audience booed Sen. Bernie Sanders , the candidate Bloomberg clearly sees as a primary opponent .It was a level of energy on Bloomberg’s behalf that’s somewhat at odds with his political personality.
One might be forgiven for being somewhat skeptical that those attendees hadn’t been paid by the Bloomberg campaign for their presence and energy. This is a campaign, after all, that
Yes
Did the Bernie campaign do the same thing?
YES, obviously. They weren’t together at first, but then you could tell very clearly what was going on. Bloomberg, go home. The PEOPLE are in the midst of a revolution! Go BERNIE!
Well, it’s either that, or an inordinate amount of billionaires were in the room. When Bernie was booed for mentioning billionaire influence, that was soErving our of a dystopian novel. THERE SHOULD BE NO CROWDS AT ALL AT THESE DEBATES!
Does WarrenPo stack the deck for their Goddess Liz?
Debates should have ZERO audience. ZERO. There is NO point in having an audience for the debate. Televised, yes. Live audience, absolutely not. All that does is allow for the candidates to try and score applause points, not make ACTUAL policy points.
It sounded like it
Democrat Party is in the crossroad - whether follow Sanders to a Bolsheviks utopia or Bloomberg to a banana republic.
Kind of a dumb question considering he's bought a big chunk of the democrat party. Dissing the guy after he bought the house back in 2018 and a couple state capitals. They seem ungrateful now.
He’s got to stack the voting booths with supporters to really make it count
This is total bulls** The problem is that the Bernie bitc** are just upset because they aren't used to anyone booing their 'God' .They think that only loud and young voters count . F Them!
Yep
