After years of criticism from the medical community, the authors of a scientific study that aimed to measure the “attractiveness” of women with endometriosis have requested that the study’s findings be retracted

The women who took part in the study did not know or consent to having their appearance rated by the scientists when they signed up. In their medical consultations, the study’s authors measured each woman’s body mass index, as well as their waist-to-hip ratio and breast-to-underbreast ratio, and asked the subjects about their sexual histories. Researchers also selected only white women for participation in the study.

“When I first read the study and saw it was by Vercellini, I thought I must be reading it wrong, since he is such a powerful and respected endometriosis specialist,” Freedman said. “But it would appear that time, money and energy has been put into a study trying to draw a connection between rectovaginal endometriosis and the way a woman looks, from the perspective of others.”

Lmk when the ‘actual studies’ spend the resources on maybe... finding a cure? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔

🙄

what? How something like that gets funded?

I can never unsee this

Whaaaaaaat in the actual good goddamn?

This is sickening and sounds like one of the Nazi eugenics experiments, but saturated with misogyny.

Endometriosis is a painful medical condition. Most women who suffer from the condition will agree on one thing - when someone is suffering from extreme pain, attractiveness or how hot they are - is the last thing on their mind 🌱

TaylorLorenz I just threw up a little reading that.

Good. That study was bonkers problematic in every way shape and form. From the mere idea of it to the lack of consent from the victims of the study. Throw it in the trash and then light the can on fire.

You’re hot let me take a look at your vag 🙄

Wonder if I was unknowingly part of that study? In 1995 I got little to no help solving my pain. Was told it was in my head. Finally found a female doctor.

NYMag Dumb bunny study!

Maybe they were trying to link it to higher estrogen. My pharmacists told me that painful PMS cramps can be due to higher estrogen levels. Not defending, just trying to reason why the attempt to make that link.

I’m currently suffering in a lot of pain from endo, and without even reading the article yet, I want to smash my face into a wall, or better yet I want to start punching the misogynistic scientific/medical community in their collective throats. 🤬
