This undated photo provided by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's Phoenix Division shows a closeup of the fentanyl-laced sky blue pills known on the street as "Mexican oxy." Smuggled in from Mexico, these mimic the prescription drug oxycodone. Law enforcement officers in the U.S. Southwest say they have also seen fentanyl-laced pills mimicking Vicodin pain medicine and Xanax anti-anxiety tablets, as well as fentanyl powder to mix with heroin for an extra kick.
American Fork police officers said that detectives with the Utah County Major Crimes Unit served a court-authorized search warrant on an apartment belonging to 30-year-old Gustavo Flores-Hernandez on March 21, 2024. During the search, detectives reportedly recovered 30 pounds of fentanyl pills, a distributable amount of cocaine, and large sums of cash. A Honduran passport for Flores-Hernandez was also found in the only occupied room of the apartment. Detectives were able to confirm that Flores-Hernandez is in America illegally with no legitimate means of work.
Flores-Hernandez was booked into the Utah County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of money laundering, two second-degree felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and a Class B misdemeanor charge of use/possession of drug paraphernalia.
