XI JINPING and Donald Trump claim to be fond of each other. After a year of spiralling disputes between America and China, their professions of friendship are hard to believe. But it is true that whenever they get together, they usually succeed in stabilising their countries’ relationship, at least for a time. Their meeting on June 29th, on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka, appears to have delivered again.
America’s decision to hold off on further tariffs had been expected, because China had made that a precondition for the resumption of talks. But it is important all the same. America has so far levied tariffs of 25% on $250bn-worth of Chinese imports, about half of what China sells to America. Mr Trump had threatened to slap tariffs on almost all remaining Chinese imports if the talks with Mr Xi went badly.
In some ways, too, the political dynamics have become worse. Mr Trump is heading into an election year and does not want to appear soft on China. In China itself the field has tilted in favour of those advocating a more unyielding stance. Since the breakdown in trade talks in early May, state media have unleashed a bombardment of commentaries that are highly critical of America.
We have been getting short end of stick because of our borrowing habits. One of Trump's 'casino minds' needs to work up a formula that will involve tariff hike and exchange of percentage of that hike that will begin offsetting our debt.
A true deal would require compromise and a recognition that the other side needs a win out of the deal, as well. Totally a foreign idea to trump.
Stop the trade and make protektionism.
It may be tough for China economy. But, the Trump bends ultimately. Xi is cool,smart & so will Kim be. They know how to handle Trump. May even be Iran. False bravado balloon blows up at some point. False bravado on Twitter has to be supported by sound descent diplomacy

Don’t believe anything that the Chinese Xi-DUMB-PING tells. Just look at the recent military exercises inside Hongkong by this DUMBO and his COMMUNIST gang against ordinary citizens.
Selling out US national security interests for some Chinese orders of soybeans is just too high of a price to pay. Not to mention sending a signal to China that Trump is willing to bend backwards just to reach a deal, compromising key US interests in the process.
That will be good to both
The whole thing will end with the status quo, and Trump will celebrate it as his success. And because nobody knows any details of the dispute, people will believe in his art of dealmaking. Never underestimate the absurdity of political campaigning!
